2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 Transmission Rebuild Bowling Green, KY
May 29, 2025

This 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 came into our shop here in Bowling Green, Kentucky with a common issue we see in the 6L80 transmission. The customer had been noticing a torque converter shutter while driving, something that usually feels like a vibration or slight hesitation during gear changes. They wanted it addressed before it got any worse.
After confirming the customers complaint, we began with a full RDI on the transmission. That means we removed it from the vehicle, disassembled it, and carefully inspected it for internal wear. Surprisingly, this one was in better shape than most we see. There was very little metal inside and no major damage. The unit was still in a state where it could be repaired rather than completely rebuilt.
When we are able to, we like to give our customers options. In this case, we offered both a basic repair and a full rebuild. A repair means replacing only the components that are worn or damaged and put some needed updates in to make the vehicle last. A rebuild, on the other hand, includes all new clutches, gaskets, and seals, a longer warranty, and more that we can't quite fit here. Since there was such little debris in the transmission, the price difference was minimal compared to the long-term benefits, and the customer chose to move forward with the full transmission rebuild so they could get an even better warranty than the already offered six month one.
Here are a few things that went into the job:
✅ Removed, disassembled, and inspected the 6L80 transmission
✅ Heavy duty billet lid torque converter
✅ All new clutches, gaskets, and seals
✅ Cooler bypass valve to ensure proper flow and cooling
✅ Pressure Regulator Valve update
✅ New checkballs
✅ Custom transmission tune to improve shift quality and extend life
✅ And much more!
Once everything was reinstalled and tested, the Silverado drove just the way it should. No more shutter, no more second guessing gear changes, and a much healthier transmission overall.
If your Silverado is acting up or showing early signs of torque converter problems, bring it to Wholesale Transmission Center in Bowling Green. We will give you the right options and make sure your transmission is built to last.
