2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Transmission Rebuild Auburn, KY
June 4, 2025

This 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 came to our shop from Auburn, Kentucky with a complaint that the overdrive gear was slipping badly. The customer, a local farmer, knew something was off and wanted it checked before it got worse.
After bringing the truck in, we noticed transmission fluid on the back of the vehicle. That was our first red flag. Before we went any further, we put it up on the lift for a closer look. Once underneath, we found the problem. The overdrive unit was cracked near the rear of the transmission. It did not take long to figure out what caused it. A failed U-joint had let go and caused enough vibration and movement to damage the overdrive housing, which in turn let all the fluid escape. At that point we knew we had to look deeper.
We called the customer to explain what we found and recommended an RDI (remove, disassemble, inspect). Since the transmission had been running dry, there was a high chance that there was damage inside beyond just the overdrive section. The customer approved, and we got to work.
Inside the transmission we found exactly what we expected. The overdrive unit was beyond repair, and nearly all of the clutches were worn out except for the direct set. This transmission had been cooked from the inside out.
Knowing the truck would be going back to work on the farm, we did not cut corners. We installed a triple disc billet lid torque converter for added strength and durability, along with several internal upgrades to help extend the life of the transmission. The goal was not just to get the truck back on the road, but to make sure it would stay there for a long time after this transmission rebuild.
This truck left our shop shifting strong and ready to get back to work. If you are in or around Auburn and your truck is starting to slip or show signs of damage, come see us at Wholesale Transmission Center in Bowling Green. We will get it done right and built to last.
